Rebuilding Together: A Small Role in a Bigger Mission

Every so often, work gives you the chance to be part of something that reaches beyond business as usual. Recently, Floor Covering Weekly shared a story highlighting how Mohawk and CalFlor have teamed up over past years to support Camp Fire disaster relief efforts by providing flooring for the rebuilding effort lead by Habitat for Humanity. I’m truly honored to have played a small part in that process.

These disasters don’t just damage homes, they disrupt lives, routines, and a sense of safety the inhabitants once had. During the time immediately after the fire while I was volunteering at a pop-up daycare, it wasn't uncommon to see children resource guarding their food as they were unsure when their next meal would be. As much as we all wish that these situations were few and far between, unfortunately we can only expect more to come as the Climate Crisis increases wildfire threats across our country leaving towns like Paradise decimated in their wake. The rebuilding process takes time, resources, and a lot of heart. Being able to volunteer in the rebuilding process and knowing that the products we develop at CalFlor can contribute to restoring a bit of comfort and normalcy for families going through a difficult time is incredibly humbling.

This project was a collaboration across teams, brands, and communities. I’m grateful for everyone at Mohawk, CalFlor, and beyond who helped make it happen. Sometimes it’s the behind-the-scenes work that quietly makes a real difference, and that’s the kind of work I’m proud to be part of.
